Getting Back into the Swing of Things

Now that I have been in the water for a month or so, I'm finally getting back into the swing of things. I'm hitting my pace times, making all of the underwaters and putting more weight on the bar in the weight room. With the World Cup in a few weeks, there isn't any time to mess around. Thankfully, I'm putting myself in a position to succeed and hopefully come away with some prize money! Before I get into the details of that upcoming trip, I would like to talk about my experiences in the month of September.

I am starting to get clinics booked out for this season, so request a clinic here if you want me to visit your team!

What’s Happening?

To kick things off, I spent Labor Day at the cabin with my family. I hauled the fishing boat all the way up north after attending the Missouri Tigers football opener against Murray State. For the first time in fifteen years, that boat was out on the crystal clear waters of northern Minnesota. My dad and I had a fantastic evening fishing for walleye, but only caught a few rock bass.

I spent the next few weeks staying at my parents' house and training with my original club team, Aquajets. I am so glad to have a place to train when I am home and love the unique practices Coach Kate comes up with! One that stuck out to me was 24x100 on ten seconds rest, while trying to hold the fastest time you can. After subtracting the rest, my time was 22:33. Kate said this set was a test of VO2 max, but I say it's a test of mental willpower to stay engaged that long! Overall, I enjoyed my time home getting to be around my family and training with the next generation of swimmers.

The latter half of September has been spent in Missouri getting my butt kicked by the Mizzou coaches in practice. There are a lot of new faces on the team with the new freshmen class and transfers coming in. I have been trying to get to know and race all the new Tigers.

Looking Ahead

Soon I will be flying out to California to do a short training camp with the Mission Viejo Nadadores before we all head out for the World Cup three meet circuit. I'll be doing a lot of flying between California, Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and then back to the US.

This amazing experience is being made a reality by my newest partner, Direct Travel! Direct Travel will be helping me out with flights this season and I am pumped to see where this partnership will take me. As a professional athlete, I travel a lot and I'm comforted to know they have my back.

Fun Fact: The U.S. National Team was announced by USA Swimming this month and I made it for the second year in a row!
